Scarlett Smith is an emerging mezzo-soprano at the Griffith Conservatorium of Music, recognised for her expressive storytelling and nuanced approach to character-driven repertoire. This September, Scarlett is excited to be a part of the Queensland Conservatoriums main stage operatic production of Brisbane Cheryomushki where she will be a member of ensemble. In May 2026, she performed the role of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro as part of the Val Machin Opera Scenes at the Griffith Conservatorium of Music. Her performance experience within the Val Machin Opera Scenes includes ensemble work in Les contes d’Hoffmann (2026), as well as scenes from Eugene Onegin and Elijah (2025).

Guided by Dr Margaret Schindler, Head of Vocal Studies at the Griffith Conservatorium of Music, Scarlett is passionate about developing operatic roles with nuance and depth, combining technical precision with vivid dramatic storytelling. She is also a choral scholar with Pilgrim People Brisbane, performing regularly in a professional ensemble under the direction of Adele Nisbet, former Head of Vocal Studies at the Conservatorium. In 2025, she undertook language study in Italy through the Griffith GAP Program as part of a selected cohort, deepening her connection to Italian language and repertoire, and continues to expand her linguistic skills through the study of German. In 2026, Scarlett was awarded the Griffith University Brighter Futures Scholarship, supporting her ongoing artistic development.

Known for her warmth, curiosity, and dedication, Scarlett embraces opportunities to expand her repertoire and artistic voice. She looks forward to continuing her operatic development internationally while building a career grounded in performance, collaboration, and growth.
